Cash's Birthday at Fairmont Grand Del Mar

It goes without saying that this past year has been nothing short of a life overhaul. Just over a year ago, we decided to sell it all and live more intentionally. Beyond selling all our possessions and our home (as if that wasn’t enough), we also set the intention to celebrate more simply and intentionally. We decided to forego the big (and often stressful) birthday celebrations and instead, to focus on the individual and some meaningful experiences. For Cash, we felt that this year he really was yearning for some alone time with Mom and Dad. As the oldest, he still has faint memories of what it is like when it was just us, so perhaps for him even more so than our other children, he appreciates that special alone time.

So we opted for a little 1 night staycation right here in San Diego at Fairmont Grand Del Mar. We chose this location for many reasons but most of all for its beautiful outdoor grounds. The resort is sprawled over 400 acres of pristine natural beauty. The resort itself has an old-world Mediterranean estate feel to it that makes you feel like you’ve been instantly transported to Europe. Although this resort is only 15 minutes away from where we are staying in North Park, it felt like we were completely transported away from San Diego, which made the experience that much more magical for Cash.

We spent the entire day outside playing games on their perfectly manicured lawns.

We also squeezed in a game of golf at the THE GRAND GOLF CLUB which was by far the nicest course he’s ever played on.
